Speaker Series: Rock stories of careers in geoscience with Dr. Alana Hinchey and Melanie Irvine

The upcoming WISE NL-Statoil Speaker Series lecture will feature Dr. Alana Hinchey, P. Geo., Department of Natural Resources and Melanie Irvine, Department of Natural Resources. Dr. Hinchey will speak about the essential role of software such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in creating digital maps and pinpointing exact positions and the importance of exploring different ways to communicate geoscience. Ms. Irvine will talk about how coastal areas are changing, which areas are at risk to flooding, erosion and slope movement, and what we may be able to expect in the future climatic conditions. They will also give an introspective reflection on their career journeys in geoscience.

Before the two talks, there will be a brief introduction to the WISE Student Summer Employment Program (SSEP). We will provide detailed information on the program and the upcoming application process.
