Corina Sinyard, Business Development Manager, Solace Power

Corina graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Starting as a Project Engineer with Colt Engineering in Calgary Alberta, she quickly changed roles to that of Facilities Engineer with EnCana Corporation. After four years, she became a Reservoir Engineer where she stayed for the remainder of her career in the oil and gas sector. Corina moved back to Newfoundland in 2011 to join Husky Energy in the White Rose Production group before moving to the Exploration team where she drilled her first offshore exploration well. In 2019, she shifted her attention as a Reservoir Engineer to the Hibernia field with ExxonMobil Canada. In 2022 Corina completely switched gears leaving her technical engineering career in oil and gas industry, to accept a position as a Business Development Manager at Solace Power, a high-tech wireless power company. With over 17 years engineering experience, Corina is very excited to see what this next chapter will bring. She is already pleasantly surprised to see how skills acquired within the oil sector are completely transferable and helping her navigate this new and exciting world of tech. Corina lives in St. Phillips with her husband Brian, two sons, Abel and Felix, and two dogs, Casey and Dyno.

Bronwyn Woolfrey, Product Manager, Mysa

Bronwyn’s love for problem solving has taken her career through several roles; from performing laboratory research, to editing vaccine protocols, to designing software for dentists.Initially, she studied Science, then Public Health, and then a start-up fellowship landed her in the Halifax tech sphere. From there she worked in Data, Customer, and Product roles, and in 2021, she joined Mysa as Product Manager for the Mysa App. As a PM, decision making is one of her main duties, and she spends much of her time collecting, creating, refining, negotiating and evaluating endless ideas… and then saying “no” to most of them, so that she can say “yes” to building the things that will deliver the best value to customers.

Ting Zou, Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences, MUN

Ting Zou received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and the M.Sc. degree in automatic control engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 2005 and 2008, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Robotics from McGill University, in 2013. Afterwards, she joined the Centre for Intelligent Machines, McGill University, as a Postdoctoral Fellow, working on optimum design of the transmissions for electric vehicles and trajectory tracking and motion control of autonomous tracked vehicles.

She is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her current research interests include mechanism design, robot control, biologically inspired robots, machine learning for robotic applications, advanced human-robot interaction, soft robots and MEMS. Dr. Zou has built strong collaboration with industrial partners and global researchers on multiple research realms in robotics. She is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineers.

Rachel Tobin, Product Designer, PolyUnity Tech Inc.

Rachel Tobin is a Product Designer at PolyUnity Tech Inc., a socially conscious additive manufacturing business dedicated to improving lives and healthcare outcomes while reducing costs. Her experience in health-tech, research, and project management spans six co-op placements, one of which was as a Research Assistant at Imperial College’s Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery. After graduating from Memorial University with a B.Eng (Electrical) in 2021, she joined the PolyUnity team, where her work has stretched a diverse range of projects including developing internal quality and risk management systems, maintaining Health Canada compliance, designing products for clients and stewarding the product database. With the latest technology boom, she is optimistic and driven to optimize patient outcomes and minimize frustrations for healthcare providers through additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.

Moderator – Oihane Cereceda, WISE NL Director of Communications

Born and raised in Bilbao, Spain, Oihane moved to St. John’s in 2013 to complete her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her background includes Industrial Electronics, Robotics, Automation, Control Systems, and Engineering Education. She is currently working as a Software Designer at Solace Power, a local tech company that provides state-of-the-art wireless power solutions. Her main role is to develop tools for the engineering team that facilitate communication between systems and testing. She is also passionate about coding and has served as a coding instructor for over 10 years.

Since her teenage years, Oihane has been volunteering in various local and international organizations in Spain and Newfoundland. She has been a WISE NL member since 2016 and was actively involved with their Graduate Student Society during her years in graduate school at MUN. Oihane is currently the WISE NL Director of Communications and is hoping to inspire and help young girls/women to find their passion with her experiences and enthusiasm.
