Speaking of Engineering Lecture Series, February 18, 2014 : Have you ever wondered…how diversity strengthens engineering?

The message isn’t new. We need more engineers, especially women. But after more than 30 years of study and work to create more diversity in engineering, why aren’t we reaping the benefits?

This upcoming panel lecture is part of the Speaking of Engineering Lecture Series hosted by PEG-NL (Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador) and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science of Memorial University.  Panelists Gloria Montano, President of WISE NL, Janna Rosales, Assistant Professor (Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science) at MUN, and Cecilia Maloney, Professor (Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science) at MUN will summarize the current state of women in engineering in Newfoundland and Labrador, including examples of the impact that Newfoundland and Labrador women have made outside of the province; present workforce perspectives on the 20th Century versus the 21st Century engineer; and discuss engineering education for a changing world not only from women’s perspectives but from perspectives on “diversity” understood more broadly.

Also included will be thoughts on how public engagement can inform and influence how and where our engineers can apply their skills and knowledge for the broader benefit of our society.

This panel session will be held Thursday, February 13th, 2014 at 7:30 pm in the S.J. Carew Building on the St. John’s Campus of Memorial University Room EN2006.  Free Admission.  All are welcome.
